Michael Knight

Rector of Dorish Maru College (DMC)

I was born and grew up in Sydney, Australia. While doing a BSc degree at Sydney University, I met some Columban missionaries who were active in the Catholic Bush Walking Club, to which I also belonged. After graduating I came to the decision that I was being called to the priesthood and more specifically, to missionary life.

In 1971 I travelled to Marburg in Queensland to begin my Novitiate year. After a subsequent two years of Philosophy in Sydney, I was asked to take part in the Province’s  Overseas Training Programme.  This time was spent in an S.V.D. Parish in the Sepik area of Papua New Guinea.

After completion of this programme I travelled to Chicago for Theological Studies. I remember my Formator telling me that my experience in P.N.G. had really concretized my calling to be a missionary in other cultures.

After Final Vows, I was assigned to Ghana in West Africa where I did parish ministry for 13 years, before returning to Australia for ministry in our Province Formation Programme. I have enjoyed different roles in the Province and my most recent appointment is as Rector of Dorish Maru College.
