Michael Hardie

Michael Hardie1Originally from New Zealand, I came to Australia in 1970 as a hopeful young man on the passenger ship 'Achille Lauro.' After some years of working as an electronics engineer, first in Melbourne and then in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, I returned to Australia to answer a call to the religious missionary life. I found my home with the Divine Word Missionaries in Sydney. I did my studies in Melbourne, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1996.

I chose Vietnam as my mission country, and went there in 1997. My main pastoral work in Vietnam was teaching ESL at the National University Foreign Language center. I stayed in Vietnam for 14 wonderful years of ministry and discovery of the language, the culture and the people.

I came back to the SVD Australia province in 2011 and am now at Dorish Maru College, our formation house at Box Hill, Melbourne.
