Jacob Kavumkal 400Jacob Kavunkal, born on 12 October 1943, in Kerala, India, joined the SVD after his high school. After graduation in Theology and post-graduation in Philosophy from the Pontifical Athenaeum, Pune and a Masters from the University of Pune, he was ordained priest on 5 May 1975. He served as formator in a minor seminary for two years before he was sent to the Gregorian University, Rome to study Mission Theology. 

Having received the Licentiate and Doctorate degrees, he taught at the Yarra Theolgoical Union, Melbourne for a few years. Later he returned to India where he served on different jobs like SVD Central Mission Secretary in India, Director of Ishvani Kendra, a national Missiolgical Centre and Associate Professor of Missiology at the Pontifical Athenaeum, Pune. 

He has organized International Seminars, founded the Indian Missiological Association, initiated the process of publishing an encyclopedia on Indian Christianity, and has taught in different countries like Sri Lanka, Philippines, USA, India, PNG and Australia.

Jacob is the author of three books and over a hundred research articles and is currently associate professor at the MCD University of Divinity, Melbourne and teaches Mission related topics at the Yarra Theological Union, Melbourne where the SVD students study theology.
